| Okla Bay Jean This poor girl is now (August 2, 2008) a new member of my family and will not be resold! Shawnee is in bad shape, but I am hoping that she will recover without any problems. Right now she is being grained 4 times daily with Kent Dynasty Senior, and also on Omegatin which is a great weight builder. Her grain feeding schedule is as follows...7 a.m., Noon, 7 p.m. & again at Midnight. She has plenty of hay now and must have water with electrolytes given to her every couple of hours. She was wormed with Safeguard on August 4, 2008. She will be re wormed in 14 days with Safeguard, and then again in another 14 days with Ivermec to kill anything that's left in her system. With horses that are this week, you must worm carefully and in this order so not to kill all the worms too fast and then plug up their system causing the horse to die. And you only want to use Safeguard or Panicure when they are this malnourished! If you use anything stronger, it can go straight to the fat in their brain and kill them! According to my vet, she's not out of the woods, and the next couple of weeks will tell if she will pull out of this. Everyone please keep her in your prayers! These pictures are very sad and should be viewed only if you have the stomach. The very last picture on this page is what Shawnee used to look like. Because of her special feeding program, I am spending $75.00 a Week just to feed her! It will take me a full year to get this mare back to normal! ~Update~ Shawnee needs her teeth power floated really bad. She has rain rot, her hooves are bad with splits that run along the coronet band. She is down to 800 lbs when she is normally 1,100 lbs. Her over all attitude is getting better though with being grained all the time. She's feeling better than when she first came here. When Shawnee first came, she was very lethargic, but now she actually had the energy to run and buck. I am taking that as a positive sign that she's starting to improve. If I do not get at least 40 lbs put on her in 30 days, my vet will pull some additional blood work on her and we will go from there. My vet bill with her is already up there but she's worth it & she's shows me daily how much she loves me for it. ~Update~ Shawnee has had her teeth power floated and is doing great! The vet checked her August 19, 2008 and she has gained 30 lbs in just 13 days. (I'm so excited!) She is now on the road to recovery and will be just fine. I just want to say again that Shawnee will NOT be for sale so please don't ask. She will live the rest of her life with me. |
