In Loving Memory of Hope! Euthanized August 29, 2008
This Thoroughbred Filly is in horrible shape!
I just rescued her August 20, 2008 from the Northville area.
I am calling her "Hope" as she came to me with no name.
I estimate her to be approx 4 years old, & 16 hands.
Hope is very emaciated and I am unsure of what her out come will be.
Hope is approx 861 lbs right now according to the weight tape but looks more like she's 700 lbs
She should be at least 1100 lbs.
Everyone please keep her in your prayers.
~Update~ August 20, 2008
Hope was wormed with Safeguard.
She will be re wormed in 14 days with Safeguard again then 14 after that with Ivermec.
~Update~ August 22, 2008
Hope will not touch the grain I usually use to build weight.
This poor little girl is just so bad that it is going to take her stomach time to get used to eating again.
Thank God she is eating grass along with some 2nd cutting hay and drinking water now.
~Update~ August 26, 2008
Hope was seen today by my Equine Dentist Greg VanderWaal.
He had to float her teeth as they were as sharp as they could be. Turns out she's 3 years old.
My vet is finally able to come see her in the morning to assess her so we will go from there.
She had some sort of Allergic reaction to something today and have no clue what?
Her whole underside of her mouth/throat back to her throat latch is so swollen.
Greg thought the same thing when he was here. Allergic reaction.
So she has been started on Dexamethasone shots until she's better.
This poor little girl just can't seem to catch a break!
~Update~ August 27, 2008
My vet was here today to check Hope.
She is dehydrated, her protein levels are way off, & she's horribly malnourished (which is obvious)
He drew blood to see if her kidneys and liver are working properly.
She has to be blanketed if the temp drops below 60 degrees, or she will just lay down and die.
Hope ate grain for the first time last night which I was ex tactic over!
She can not have sweet feed at all not until at least spring. (Too hard on her system)
What I thought was an allergic reaction yesterday turned out to be what they call "Bottle Necking."
It's where the protein levels are so low that the blood cells are releasing liquid into the skin trying to balance out the difference in the blood stream.
So now we wait on her blood tests!
~Update~ August 29, 2008
Hope got her blood results back.
Her protein levels are bottomed out, she's anemic, her red cells are low, her white cells are low also,
but her kidneys and liver are working at this point.
This morning she took a turn for the worse.
She is bottle necking really bad because of her protein levels being so far off.
She can't eat or drink at this point.
We have given her a heavy dose of the Dex to see if that will bring her around.
My vet said if she doesn't get better by tonight then to re dose her again heavy!
I am begging everyone who reads this to PLEASE say extra prayers today for her.
I have been crying to Hope and begging her to please try harder and that I don't want to give up on her.
Hope is very weak, she can barely stand at this point.
~Update~ August 29, 2008 5:00 p.m.
Well, Hopes swelling is getting worse! She has been given the 2nd shot of Dex.
The only way to save her at this point is to take her to Michigan State which will cost me between
$3,000 - $5,000 that I don't have.
She has to have a protein/blood transplant in order to live and that is not even guaranteed!
They give her a 20%-40% chance to live with the transplant but that is only if they do not encounter any other problems at this point.
So it looks like I have to put this poor girl down.
I do not want to put her down because now she looks like she's trying to fight to stay alive.
I just don't have that kind of money! I do this all on my own and  there just isn't any funding.
Hope has been Euthanized!
I am heart broke I just can't stand it! She spent her last hour with her head cuddled in my chest!
